Rhodos

The Greek island Rhodes has been a touristic hotspot for many years. Rhodes has a very interesting history and many places have been preserved, such as ancient Greek temples and medieval towns.
One of the seven world wonders of classical antiquity is the Colossus of Rhodes. The Greek word is kolossos, the Dutch word Kolos is derived from it. The Colossus of Rhodes was a huge sculpture, that stood above the entrance to the port.
The island is mountainous, with the Akramytis (823m) in the southwest, Atavyros (1,215 m) in the middle and Profitis Ilias (800 m) in the north. The flat land that is left is little but very fruitful. The coast is dotted with beautiful sand, gravel beaches and beautiful bays. Rhodes has a Mediterranean climate, with an average temperature of around 19 degrees, mild winters and cool summers due to the northeast wind that is present throughout the summer. The number of sunny days per year is around 260, hence the name "solar island".
